Norcross Extends Winning Streak -
The Blue Devils extended their
winning streak to 8 games as they
beat the Lawrenceville Black Knights
16-4 Friday night. Returning to
Rhodes Jordan Park, memories of an
early season practice loss were
erased as the Blue Devils dominated
both defense and hitting.
Michael Bauer pitched 3 sharp
innings allowing only one run on one
hit as the Norcross defense played
tough. Twice in the bottom of the
first inning, Jacob
Gassert ranged to his right to field
hard hit ground balls, making long
cross field throws to first shutting
down Black Knight base runners.
The Blue Devils edged ahead 2 - 1 in
the second inning as Mike Olson and
Chris McNulty each reached base and
scored one of their game high 3 runs
a piece.
The Norcross batters put on another
display of hitting power in the 4th
inning, scoring a season tying high
14 runs, batting around the order
with every player reaching base and
crossing the plate at least once.
Andrew Thunhorst also went 3 for 3
in the high scoring game and
collected 3 RBIs along the way.
Zach Walch closed out the final
fourth inning firing a called strike
3 past the frozen Black Knight
batter Caleb Merritt. Coming
into the game Caleb was 6 for 7 and
scored 4 runs in three games against
the Blue Devils this season.
Earlier in the inning Zack gave up a
long home run to 153 1/2 pound
(estimated) Brandon Jones with a
runner on 1st base.
The Blue Devils have a well deserved
off day to rest Saturday before
returning to action Sunday at 3 PM
to face a tough Mill Creek opponent
at home. Having lost to the Blue
Devils at Bogan Park in their
previous meeting, the Hawks have
held their last two opponents to 1
run and are a half game behind
Norcross in the GGBL standings.
