Norcross, GA - 5/20/2007 - O Sees Stars 11-10 - The Ocee Stars brought 15 players to Pinckneyville Park on a perfect Sunday afternoon to witness a real star performance by the hot again Norcross Blue Devils. The Ocee team plays in the newly formed Cal Ripken league in Georgia and is the only such Ripken league in the state.

In inter-league action, the Norcross all star lineup demonstrated powerful defense and explosive hitting to best the Fulton County team by 1 run after 5 innings. Playing with unfamiliar rules, the Blue Devils ended the game with a "walk off strike out" play, executed for the first time this season.

Falling behind early 4 - 0 in the first inning and playing with lead off base runners allowed, the Norcross defense quickly seized the momentum as starting pitcher Jesse Vaughan turned and picked off the lead Ocee runner at second base.

Vaughan would later move to catcher and combine with left fielder Jacob Gassert to shut down a third inning rally with the "defensive play of the game". Gassert threw a strike from left center field to Vaughan at home, who applied the tag to the surprised Ocee runner.

Although Coach Walch sent five pitchers to the mound in five innings to limit the Ocee team to 10 runs, the pressure applied by explosive Norcross hitting was too much for the Stars. Michael Bauer, Sam Grosswald, Zach Walch, and Jacob Gassert combined for 4 consecutive doubles to even the score 9 - 9 by the bottom of the fourth inning.

The game ended on a heads up Griffin Ramsey run to first base after a dropped third strike by the Star catcher allowed Jacob Gassert to come home from third for the winning 11th run.

Beginning Monday afternoon, the Blue Devils will utilize the plush Pinckneyville Middle School training facility for light drills in advance of pool party and Wooden Bat Tournament action scheduled for the upcoming week.
