2006 Fall Minor Red Sox Diary

Announcement History:   8/18/2006 - 11/9/2006

11/13/2006 - Season Recap:

Thank You!
Parents for going along with our “Snack Challenge”
Leigh Waldis – winning the snack challenge
Sid Johnson – leading the cheers in the stands
Rich Waldis – Kept the scorebook all season
Bob Caesar – Photographed over 2000 pictures
Dave Nelson - Photography and Team DVD for end of season party
Tom Peters – Threw batting practice all season, field coach
John Stewart – Coaching 3rd base, prepping the field, pep talking the kids
Michele Walch – Team’s social director – always gets the team camaraderie going

Players

Matthew Adam – Continually improved throughout the season, saved his best game for the last game where he reached base three times.

Grant Brinkman – Led the team in Walks and a .543 On Base Percentage, made the defensive play of the year with the catch in right field in the playoffs

Aidan Caesar – Led the team in innings pitched, and runs scored – Team CY Young award winner, only struck-out twice all year.

Jared Gaskin – 1st year player, .615 On Base Percentage and even though he missed playing 2 Wednesday games he still managed to be 5th on the team in RBI’s.

Andrew Heil –1st Year Player, Second on the team in batting average, Rookie of the year honors

Ryan Johnson – Earned the nickname “Clutch” because he came through when needed

Jake Lampel - .684 On Base Percentage, Perfect utility player who played well at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, SS and Pitched.

Thomas Peters – One of my favorite players who has played on 6 of our teams over the years.  Will be one of the best catchers in the spring and should compete for a spot on this years Norcross Minor All-Star team this spring.

Nelson Stewart – Became our go-to pitcher by the end of the year, only struck-out twice all year, 8th team he has been on with Zack – won 6 championship trophies on those 8 teams.

Zack Walch – Led the team in 7 offensive categories, struggled pitching during the year but saved his best pitching for the last two games. Only struck out once during the season.

Zachary Waldis – .536 On Base Average. Anchored center field during the tournament saved many runs by holding kids to long singles instead of doubles and triples. I’ve always tried to get Zach on the team over the years but someone always knew him jumped and got him before I could.

Heroic moments in the tournament:

Aidan Caesar pitched two shutout innings versus the Cubs while the Sox scored the maximum 10 Runs allowed in the first two innings, only making one out.  The Sox went on to score 5 more in the third to shorten the game and preserve their pitching.  Every Sox player not only reached base in the game but they also scored.

The Double play started by Nelson Stewart who got the batter at first when Zack Walch relayed the ball to the plate where Trey Peters applied the tag to get the potential tying run at the plate as the Sox knocked out the Athletics by the final score of 4-3

"Clutch" Johnson came up big with a huge hit to the opposite field over a charging left fielder to knock in two Red Sox players in the early going on Saturday morning to propel the Red Sox to a close victory (4-3) over the Angels

Nelson Stewart’s 2 out, 2 strike Triple to keep the Sox’s hopes alive against the Braves – followed by Aidan Caesar’s infield hit to tie the game and Zack Walch’s walk off two out Double to score Aidan from 1st base to knock the Braves out of the tournament.

Grant Brinkman’s Game Saving, Running Grab in the first game versus the Pirates.

Andrew Heil reaching base all 4 times in the championship game with 3 hits and leading the team with 3 runs scored.  Andrew had 5 RBI’s in the final two games

11/9/2006 - Hi Guys, Just wanted to remind everyone that the party is tomorrow at Jocks and Jills (Norcross) at 7PM. Coach John thought it would be good to have the players wear their Red Sox jerseys. So, Mr. Lampel- get that thing out of the fire pit as you need it for one more time! (:

Dave completed the DVD- I haven't seen it as I want to watch it with all of you but I bet it turned out great! If you have time, please
drop Dave a note and let him know what you thought of his pictures.
I means more to him than you know. If you haven't seen them all yet- go to the website www.walch.biz and enter into Daves Photography. Or you can bring up his website at www.davenelson.com and you can find them under Dave Nelson Photography and then under the sports
category. I know that I am biased but I really believe Dave has a
talent for photography! So, do check it out if you haven't done so.
Mr. Caesar- one last time- thank you as well for all of those beautiful pictures!

I didn't get many RSVP's- Please jot me a quick email to let me know that your coming and how many you have so I can give the restaurant a final head count. See you all tomorrow!

Thanks Red Sox!

Michele

11/2/2006- SOX WIN!! - Congratulations to the Red Sox and the Pirates on a fine season.  The two teams battled into extra innings on consecutive nights with the Red Sox emerging as league champions after a 7 inning 2 1/2 hour game.  The two teams split the season with each team winning two times in four games.  The Red Sox reached their #1 Goal on Thursday night by winning the league.

11/1/2006 - Wednesdays match-up between the Pirates and the Sox featured 5 different players who played on the 2005 Norcross Americans Pee Wee All-Stars - Dixie Youth District 7 co-champions.  The game was tied at nine going into the last inning of play and both teams were held scoreless.  The Sox pulled it out in the bottom of the 6th inning when Aidan Caesar scored from third base after two outs.  For Aidan, it was his third run scored of the game.  Aidan pitched the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings which were the last three innings of eligibility for the tournament as he pitched the maximum 13 innings allowed by rule.  The play of the game belonged to Grant Brinkman who made a fine running grab on a line drive to right field off the bat of Kyle Craig.  For the Red Sox it was there 5th straight elimination game victory in the tournament.

These same two teams wind-up the fall ball season tonight at Pinckneyville Park beginning at 6:30pm.

10/31/2006 - Are you like me - older than 43 and have your PC Desktop settings set at 1024 x 768?  Thanks to Bob Caesar we have a Red Sox Desktop Background image that is easy on our aging eyes.  After you click the image, click "save as" and make it your screen background until next spring when baseball starts up again.

11/3/2006 -  Hi Red Sox, One last update! Sure feels weird not to be putting a time for warm-ups or game times in this email! What a great game last night- We
should be proud of our guys for lasting out 3 1/2 hours at the park! (Between warm ups and game time) I am surely proud of each and every one of our players- they showed a lot of spunk and spirit- so as Mr. Johnson would say, "Let's go Red Sox"!

To Mrs. Johnson- thanks so much for the hand warmers- they were a big hit and I am thinking about getting some of those for my next trip up to Lambeau Field! They will now be a "staple" at the Walch household!

To Mrs. Waldis and Mrs. Peters- your snack for both teams was a welcome treat to end the game and I so appreciate your efforts with coordinating all that! I just couldn't believe both teams were so excited about ice cream sundaes- I was freezing out there! Ice cream is a hit no matter what the temperature so awesome job! Scott had printed the ballots for snack challenge but forgot to bring them. Not to worry, Mrs. Waldis, I would just bet your name is front and center on the ballot! (:

Mr. Caesar- thanks for taking that end of the season family photo- and I would be happy to pick up the remaining pictures from you so that I can sort them along with the others. Please email me your address and a good time and I will be there. Or, you can leave them in your mailbox.

Mr. Waldis- your stats were no less than perfect last night- even with all of those extra innings. I love how you write in accomplishments next to the players names!

Mr. Johnson- thanks for the great cheers! You brought out the best in our stands! (:

To Mr. Peters- thanks for making all of those trips back from Carolina to make it to warm-ups and games! (Now, that shows commitment!)

To Coach John- Let's face it- You rock on third base and thanks for getting there extra early for warm-ups and getting the field ready for our team! It sure took a load off Scott from racing to get there from downtown! Coach Scott and Coach John have been coaching together for a lot of seasons now- and I must say- What a pair they make!!  To all of the Red Sox parents- thanks for letting our guys coach your kids! I won't soon forget many of their plays or smiles!

Our end of the season party is set for Jock's and Jill's- Next Friday night (November 10) at 7PM. The website for Jocks and Jill's is www.jocksandjills.com so please check out the site for directions and menu. For directions, hit the Norcross location and it will post directions from where you are coming from. They will have it set up for checks by the family so when you get there- give the waitress your families name for your tab. Ironically, the Peewee Red Sox team also has their party there the same night. (Too Funny) So, our room is in the front- when you get there- they will probably ask if you are Red Sox peewee or minors! Mr. Lampel- I hope you can stomach this many Red Sox fans in one building just one last time! (:

Grandparents and fans are included on this invite!! Please email me when you have time and let me know how many you have so that I can give the restaurant a head count!

Our guys did great- but I am always sad to see the season come to an end! I hope that you all enjoyed the season and most importantly that you have taken some good memories and treasured friendships from the park! I know that we have!!

Way to go Red Sox!!

Michele

11/2/2006 - Hi Red Sox, Wow! Can you believe we have another game tonight? I can barely keep up with the emails and reminders for this team this week! Great job by all- I have to say my favorite plays were Grants spectacular catch in the outfield to save the day and Aidan's slide into home plate! The fan of the day has got to go to Mr. Johnson leading the troops with his "Let's go Red Sox" using the bleachers as a drum! You are the man! The Pirates sure have a great team- so hat's off to our guys for pulling that one out! We have quite of few friends on their team- and a few have been on our teams in the past. I always have a hard time rooting against those players that have been on our teams in the past. Their players showed great sportsmanship to end our game last night! Good for them!

Mr. Caesar gave me his pictures to sort along with Dave's last night! I have my work cut out for me- but I wanted to thank Mr. Caesar for all of the hard work and time he put into photographing our team this season! He has taken not hundreds but thousands of photos! Mr. Caesar- YOU ROCK!

I will send an email out tomorrow with the details of our end of the season party! Tentatively, it will be a week from tomorrow night- Friday the 10th- 7PM at Jock's and Jill's on Holcomb Bridge Road. I will send out the directions as well. We are working hard at making it a special event for the guys- so I hope everyone can attend. These guys deserve their due!

Big thanks to Mrs. Waldis and Mrs. Peters for stepping up to home plate and the finish line for the Red Sox snack challenge tonight! You guys are troopers! Scott will be bringing ballots for tonight for all of you to vote on Snack challenge of the Year for our end of the season party! (: ( His idea, not mine) Truthfully, you all did a great job with snack this season- our kids never went home hungry and win or lose- it was always a bit of a celebration! So, thank you all for humoring me and for giving it your best. I know sometimes it seemed like a pain- but in the end- our kids made out on the deal! (:

Win or lose tonight- Let's make sure these kids know they did a great job! Mr. Johnson can lead us in a cheer at the end- win or lose. I know it is always nice to win- but the journey getting there has been unbelievable!! I am proud that our kids are the last 20 or so left playing at the park! I look back at the beginning of the season and I must say that everyone on our team has really improved their game of baseball! Their accomplishments as a team have been huge!! And, it has truly been a pleasure getting to meet up with all of you and your kids!

To recap- our game is at 6:30- but be there at 5:30 for warm ups! The Waldis and Peters families are up to the plate for snack!

As Always, GO RED SOX!!

Michele

10/31/2006 - Hi Red Sox, Happy Halloween!! and congrats to our guys for another great win! My favorite part of the game was listening to the dugout and the cheers from the stands. And, it was heartwarming to see all of the players exchange high fives and hugs at the end of the game! Good for them. Even Finley (The Stewart's dog) was jumping for joy!

On to tomorrow- we will play those dreaded Pirates! (They don't have a loss yet) So, we will have to win to tomorrow to keep us alive for Thursday. We are the only two teams left- and I must say I am very proud of our team for getting us to the Championship games and for becoming one of the top two teams left! They all deserve lots of high fives for that! No matter what happens- these guys ROCK!

I know the Gaskins are out tomorrow as it is Wednesday and they cannot make it on Wednesdays. If anyone else cannot be there- please let us know right away so Scott and John can plan accordingly.

I went thru the entire team for snack duty! (Whew- who knew that would happen?) So, the Stewarts and the Walch's will be up to the plate for the snack tomorrow. Big thanks to Lindsay for always being my stellar snack buddie!

Warm ups will be at 5:30PM! As Always, GO RED SOX!!

Michele

10/30/2006 - Another day, another one run victory - this time over the Braves by a score of 7-6.  Zach Waldis got it going in the 3rd inning with two outs as he hit a towering two run home run to pull the Sox to within one run. It was the Sox first home run of the season. The Braves had the Sox on the ropes with 2 out and ahead in the count - when Nelson Stewart hit a 1-2 pitch into the right field corner for a triple.  Aidan Caesar tied the game with a clutch RBI single. With the game tied at 6 and the time expired Zack Walch then hit a 3-1 pitch over the center fielders head to end the game.  For the third time this season, the Sox reached the original goal set of everyone reaching base in one game- this is quite an accomplishment against this exceptional defensive and pitching team.

In other Minor Tournament action the Pirates beat the Marlins by a score of 8-4 setting up a championship game(s) against the Pirates.  The Pirates narrowly escaped defeats against the Sox in two previous meetings this year.  The Sox face elimination for the 5th time in the tournament as they play the Pirates at 6:30 pm on Wednesday night, November 1st. The Sox have eliminated 4 teams from the tournament and will play 6 different teams leaving only the Cardinals and Yankees as teams un-played during post season play.

10/29/2006 - Hi All, I heard the game was great on Saturday! Sounds like it was a nail biter. Saturday mornings are tough for me to make as I have to take Jake to bowling. So, sorry I missed it but was glad to know that the boys did awesome! Big thanks to the Waldis and Johnson families for the stellar snacks. I heard the coffee and donuts hit the spot and the chicken was very tasty! So, great job guys!!

We are up tomorrow for 6PM- we will face the Braves. Get there early if you can for warm up- Scott will try to be there as early as he can. The Heil and Gaskin families are on deck for snack!

As Always, GO RED SOX!!

Michele

10/28/2006 - "Clutch" Johnson came up big again today with another huge hit to the opposite field over a charging left fielder to score two Red Sox players in the early going on Saturday morning to propel the Red Sox to another close victory (4-3) over the Angels.  Ryan also made a great play at Short Stop later in the game to get a big out at first base in the final inning.  Grant Brinkman (the player of the game) scored the winning run for the second time in two 4-3- one run - victories.  Nelson Stewart pitched beautifully for the first two innings and Aidan Ceasar closed the door as the Red Sox pitching has been much improved during the tournament.

The Red Sox play the Braves in a game that puts the winner in the championship game  and the loser will go home.  In other action, the Pirates beat the Braves to remain undefeated in the tournament and will play the Marlins on Monday night after the Red Sox vs. Braves contest.

10/27/2006 - Tom and I will be at the cages at 9:00am...Please have your kids there early enough to be warmed up and ready to play. Tom will run the cage while I work to ready the field and do all the prep work.

Thanks...
John

10/27/2006 - Hi Red Sox, Great job last night! Wow! What a close game!! Big thanks to the Brinkman and Adam families for the pizza and awesome brownies- you guys rock! Also thanks to Mr. Peters for the helping get the kids ready in the cages. Mr. Lampel- that red coat was dashing- I am proud of you!! I think we should all follow suit and wear something red tomorrow.

On to tomorrow- we play at 10AM- and we take on the Angels. Scott and John, please email the group to let us know what time you want to warm up tomorrow.

To recap- we live for another day- tomorrow @ 10AM (batting practice will be announced by the coaches) and the Waldis and Johnson families are on deck for the snack!  As Always, Let's GO RED SOX!

Michele

10/26/2006 - The Red Sox won a nail biter on Thursday night by a score of 4-3.  A fine defensive game was turned in by Ryan Johnson as he made three plays in the game that all prevented runs from scoring.  Nelson Stewart "pitched" in with another fine job not allowing a run in two innings of work and started an inning ending double play on a sharply hit ground ball to the mound to get the batter at first and the relay throw to the plate by Zack Walch was handled by Trey Peters who tagged the tardy runner (Steven Chevrier) ) from third base.  It was a bang bang play and the Cadillac game changing play of the game - ironically the runner's name that was tagged at home is commonly confused with a late model Chevrolet, but GM no less.

10/25/2006 - Hi All, Great game on Tuesday- and Huge thanks to the Caesar family for the dipping dots. Boy, the kids sure like those- they were a big hit! Also, thank you Mrs. Waldis for the great job on scoreboard!- Those fans were a little picky with you but you held up just great! (:

Tonight is our game at 6PM. Get there early to warm up if you can. Unfortunately, the 6PM time is a tough one as always for Coach Scott as he is coming from downtown. Please have your kids warm up together with the kids that are there. Thanks Mr. Peters for taking charge of the cages last game.

My PC is failing on me (I think it is the power supply) so I probably won't have access to receive your emails today. (It keeps shutting off and then I can't get it back on) So, if you have anything you need or if you can't be there tonight, please email Coach Scott or Coach John to let them know. Also, rain is called for today- the rainout number is 770-242-7007. I probably won't be able to update you via email- you are welcome to call me at home 770-448-3808 if you need to. The park has said that we will play Friday (tomorrow) at 6PM if we are rained out. So, mark your calendars accordingly and I will have Scott send an email about that if mine is down.

I am still planning the end of the season party. I know some teams have had theirs or just met at the park. We like to do special things for the kids and so it takes me longer than the average. I will let you know a date by the end of this week- it will be after this weekend though. I am hoping to pick a time that everyone will be able to make as I really want to make sure each of kids get their due! They deserve it!

Ok- and Another Grey's Anatomy night!- But, at least we have the early game. Anyone else watch that show? I know I talk much of it- but boy, it keeps you coming back! (:

Which brings me to our guys, hope they can keep us coming back to the park too! For a recap, the game is at 6PM, get there as early as you can to warm up. The Brinkman and Adam families are up to the plate for snack!!!

As Always, GO RED SOX!!

Michele

P.S. Mr. Lampel- Humor me- How about a red pair of socks or shoes? Anything I see earns you 10 points and you get to pass GO! (: (Go ahead, admit it- your going to miss my banter- aren't you?)

10/24/2006 - The Red Sox offense was flawless on Tuesday night as they scored 15 runs in only 3 at bats.  The team reached another goal as they had every player reach base (for the second time this season) and every player scored in the game!  Stars in the game were Nelson Stewart and Andrew Heil who both had bases loaded triples.

The Red Sox take on the Athletics in game 3 of the tournament in an elimination game on Thursday night at 6:00pm.
(
More | Box)

10/21/2006 - The Red Sox let another one slip away on Saturday morning as they lost to the undefeated Marlins by a score of 8-6.  With a 5-3 lead going into the top of the 4th inning, the Sox could not hold the explosive/patient Marlin offense.
(
More | Box)

10/18/2006 - Our game has been switched from noon to 10:30AM on Saturday for the first tournament game. The Coach from the 10:30 game had to switch it as he has to coach on another field at that same time.

So, our game on Saturday is at 10:30AM- Warm up will be at 10AM.

We are missing Grant Brinkman and Andrew Heil that day so that puts us at 9 players for that day. PLEASE email me back to let me know that you will be there on Saturday and you are aware of the time switch at 10:30. I will be calling those that I don't hear from as we need to make sure that we have 8- (The minimum amount you can play
with). We are not allowed to get subs for any tournament games.

10/19/2006 - The Sox split a double header tonight first beating the Angels 10-1 and losing the night cap to the Braves 7-1.  Nelson Stewart and Jake Lampel pitched a beauty in the first game.  The Sox head into the season ending tournament with a 5-4-2 record.  Dave Nelson's pictures of the game.
(
More | Box)

10/14/2006 - The Pirates used another late inning 5 run rally to beat the Red Sox again Saturday by a score 7-5.  For the second consecutive time against the Pirates this season the Red Sox have been unable to hold big leads entering the final inning.  Players of the game were Jared Gaskin with a big two out RBI single to spark the 5 run 2nd inning for the Red Sox and Jake Lampel who had a run scored, two singles and a great defensive play at short stop to end the first inning.

The Red Sox have a busy week ahead as the Pirates were the first of four games this week beginning with the undefeated Marlins on Tuesday and a double header on Thursday against the Angels and Braves.  Nelson Stewart will start for the Red Sox on Tuesday.

10/13/2006 - Tournament Snack Schedule

Tourney Game #1 Walch/Stewart
Tourney Game #2 Caesar/Lampel
Tourney Game #3 Brinkman/Adam (if needed)
Tourney Game #4 Waldis/ Johnson (if needed)
Tourney Game #5 Heil/ Gaskin (if needed)

10/12/2006 - Rain make-up game rescheduled for Thursday 10/19 at 7:30pm as the second half of a double header.

10/17/2006 - Our game is cancelled. We have an open time at 6PM for the batting cages at Berkeley Baseball. John should be there and Scott will be coming from his downtown office so he will try to be there on time.

10/17/2006 - Hi Guys, The game has not been officially rained out but it sure appears that we would not be playing tonight. Coach John thought it would be good to get the kids to the cages at Berkeley baseball (Indoor cages near Dan Watts field) for an optional batting practice tonight if the game is a no go. He is working on a time with Berkeley now. Unlike Dan Watts, the cages aren't free- However, it would be a nominal cost to use the cages (5.00 or so). Again, this is optional and something extra that the coaches are offering to the kids.

10/16/2006 - Hi Guys, Just a heads up- there is a 90% chance of rain tomorrow! There is a pretty good chance that we could get rained out for tomorrows game.
The park has sent an email letting us know that if we are rained out  tomorrow- there will NOT be a makeup game scheduled to replace it. (There is not an open slot with the time remaining)

The rain out number for the park is 770-242-7007. I will keep you posted via email as I hear anything from the park.

10/13/2006 - Hi Red Sox, Too bad we couldn't get the game in on Wednesday! (But the weather takes precedence over baseball sometimes) Mr. Lampel- thanks for the gracious offer of your umbrella- I forgot to compliment you on your red shirt that night! (: You are really coming around on team spirit! (:

I thought we were not going to make up the game as we have two games scheduled next week but the commish has scheduled us for a make up on Thursday at 7:30PM. This baseball is really messing with my Grey's Anatomy night! (: That gives us a game next Tuesday, a double header on Thursday, and we start the tournament on Saturday. (Whew- are you ready for some baseball?) Our schedule is updated at www.walch.biz so check it out in case you forget the times and dates. To the Heils, can you help the Peters with the snack on next Thursday since your scheduled snack is for the later game? Please let us know any scheduling difficulties for your guys so we can make the roster
accurate.

Mr. Gaskin had invited all of us for next Saturday to his soccer game at 12:30- unfortunately, we just got the schedule and our first tourney game next Saturday is at noon! Sorry Mr. Gaskin- as you well know, baseball comes first! (: I have included the spreadsheet for the tournament below.

As for snack, I like to mix it up a bit for the tournaments as we never know how many games we will be playing. I like to pair families up for each game so it makes it a bit easier. To the Peters, I left you off the tourney snack list as I happened to
schedule your family twice this season for snack. So, that is why you don't see your name below! Thanks for doing your part thru the season!

Tourney Game #1 Walch/Stewart
Tourney Game #2 Caesar/Lampel
Tourney Game #3 Brinkman/Adam (if needed)
Tourney Game #4 Waldis/ Johnson (if needed)
Tourney Game #5 Heil/ Gaskin (if needed)

With 3 regular games next week and the start of the tourneys, I doubt we will have time for a optional batting practice, but Scott and John- you can hit reply all to let the team know that plan. Also, reply to all and let us know a time for tomorrow. 9AM comes early- so what time do you want everyone there?

Ok, one day at a time- Tomorrow is our game against the Pirates at 9AM. (Remember the Pirates?- Lets give them our best! ) Mr. Lampel- keep sporting the Red Sox colors! It can't hurt! Also, I have to tell you all that our parent spirit in the stands is nothing short of spectacular! Not only can I hear you all- so can those kids- So, good job on all of the positive cheering! You all deserve a pat on the back!

Tomorrow @ 9AM- and watch out for those flying soccer balls! -The Gaskin family is on deck for the snack!!

As Always, GO RED SOX!!

Michele

10/9/2006 - Great game on Saturday! The kids all looked great out there! Don't forget to check out all of the great pictures Mr. Caesar has taken just click the Photos link on the left! And, Dave Nelson also his out there as well.

I have been falling down on the job so to speak! I forgot to mention a big thanks to the Lampel family for the great treats after last weeks game. Those cupcakes take some time- so thanks for putting in that extra effort. Of course, big thanks as well to the Waldis family! Ok, you guys rock! Those subs hit the spot and I am glad we all got to sing Happy Birthday to Zach.

Next up- We take on Coach Bache and the Braves on Wednesday at 7:30pm. We are the home team so we get the cages at 7:00pm. Coach Scott will be at Dan Watts tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 6:30pm for this week's optional batting practice.

I will vow to remember the water for Wednesdays game! I know that Jared will be out since it is a Wednesday game. If anyone else cannot make it, let us know so that we can adjust the lineup sheet. Rosa- I got your email about Grant missing the 14th and the 21st. I have passed that along to Scott and John and they will adjust the lineup for those games. Thanks for giving us a heads up!

Just to recap the week- Tomorrow night is the optional batting practice at Dan Watts (6:30PM). Wednesday is our game and we have the cages at 7PM. The Heil family is up to the plate for snack!

As Always, GO RED SOX!!

10/6/2006 - Norcross, GA - Pinckneyville Park - The Red Sox tied the Cardinals in a tightly contested game on Thursday night.  Both starting pitchers hurled no hit ball - Aidan Ceasar retired all 6 batters he faced (striking out two) and Mark Burkett pitched 3 innings and struck out 7 different batters.  The Cardinal pitchers combined to strike out 8 different Red Sox batters in the game and only allowing 1 hit and two walks.  The three Red Sox Pitchers (Caesar, Lampel and Walch) combined for a no-hitter!  For the second time this year the Red Sox played the game without committing an error!

Andrew Heil got the Red Sox on the board first when he walked with one out in the 3rd inning and advance all the way to third on two passed balls.  He then stole home when the ball squirted away from the Cardinals catcher.  The final two runs came in the 4th inning when Zack Walch doubled in Aidan Caesar for the only Red Sox hit on the evening and later scored on a wild pitch.  All three Cardinal runs came in the bottom of the third inning.

The Red Sox begin a 5 game home stand on Saturday at 1:30pm when they play host to the Andrew Shlossman, Jeremy Adams and Cubs.

10/5/2006 - Dave Nelson has updated his site from Saturdays game.  If you haven't had a chance to browse his photography site, please do it is great stuff.

10/2/2006 - Norcross, GA - Pinckneyville Park - The Red Sox scored 5 runs in the first inning and never looked back as they won the first game of a two game road series at the Cardinals by a final score of 8-2. The first inning was sparked by a laser line drive to center field that scored two runs by Ryan Johnson. Andrew Heil also chipped in going two for two with two RBI's - both hits were well into the outfield. He is having a great rookie season as he is now hitting .636 and leads the team in doubles. Aidan Caesar came on with the bases load and no one out in the bottom half of the 2nd inning and got out of the tough jam not allowing a run. It was that kind of night for the Cardinals who were robbed many times by the stingy Red Sox defense. In his first start of the year, Nelson Stewart struck out the side in the first inning.

9/30/2006 - Norcross, GA - Pinckneyville Park - The Red Sox played it close early but couldn't hold an early 3-2 lead over the A's as they lost by a final score of 8-3 on Saturday.

Players of the game were awarded to Jared Gaskin for his 2 out 2 RBI single in the second inning and to Ryan Johnson who led off the 2nd inning with a triple and scored a run. Grant Brinkman walked twice in the game for a team leading 6th time. Zack Walch and Trey Peters were also two for two in the game.

9/28/2006 - An age old rivalry game was played tonight between the Red Sox and the Yankees - and the Red Sox prevailed (unlike the real world this year) by a score of 8-2.  Players of the game were Jake Lampel 1-1, BB and a runs scored and pitched 2 innings; Zack Walch who went 2 for 2 with a Triple and 3 RBI's and recorded 6 putouts at first base; and finally Ryan Johnson executed the pickle play to perfection for the final out of the game and had two other solid defensive plays earlier in the game.

The Red Sox reached one of their team goals on Wednesday night: Play an entire game without committing an error.  I wished I had recognized this earlier while talking with the team but I only realized it after going through the score sheet (thanks Rich!) and recording the play by play.  This is a special goal because it is very difficult to play an error free game and your kids made it look routine!

The Red Sox are back in action on Saturday at noon against the Athletics.  Don't forget the rain make-up game vs. the Cardinals this Monday, October 2nd at 7:30pm.

9/21/2006 - The Pirates edged the Sox tonight by a score of 7-6.  The game was played pretty evenly going into the 5th inning as the Pirates were leading by a score of 2-1.  Both teams came out swinging and gave up 5 runs in the 5th inning however.  The Sox record is now even at 1-1-1 and the Pirates remained undefeated.  Player of the game honors went to Grant Brinkman for a huge hit to start the 5th inning rally and Matthew Adam who had a beautiful RBI bunt to score the tying run in the 5th inning.  Next up is a 3pm practice at the game field this Saturday afternoon.

9/22/2006 - Well, it was a great game last night! And, I ditto Coach Scott's comments about not walking away sad from that game- I thought all of our guys did a great job!! There were so many other teams watching that I heard comment on how well we played and how they wish they could have just scored a run or two against that team. So, Hats off to all of our Red Sox!

I know some are out of town tomorrow- but for those that are here- the practice will be held at the game field at Pinckneyville Park at 3PM. And, our next game is next Wednesday at 7:30 so we will go with an optional batting practice at Dan Watts field on Tuesday of next week. Mr. Gaskin- I know your out for Wednesday so I will have Jared taken off of the roster that night to make it easier for the scorekeepers.

If you have any questions on schedule, snacks, rain out number, or game recaps- don't forget to check www.walch.biz for all of the information you need pertaining to times, dates, ETC.

To Rosa- I am having Scott make some more CD'S. I believe your copy might have went home with the Adam family or to your hubby but I cannot remember. Not to worry, I will get you one soon!

On the JSPN front, I got some bad new about my camera today- it is a goner! The Stewarts graciously offered theirs but my camera had some niche special features for Jakes interviews as he used a microphone and we had all the necessary hook ups on my MAC at home to be able to get it on a DVD. We still plan on doing something special for the player(s) of the game. Scott and I will put our heads together and work something out before next game.

I know that Jake, Zack, Nelson, Trey, and Andrew all got to lead us in coaching first base. I thought that actually turned out to be a good thing for the kids- the kids all responded with great sportsmanship and I would bet Scott will have everyone take turns for that position moving forward. Coach Scott? How about it? At the very least, I would like to see the players that didn't get a chance to coach first to be able to step up and do that if they would like to. To the Caesar family- Wow! What a snack! Thanks for the great chicken and the fudgesicles.

Well, our record is 1-1-1. Are they learning and getting better? Gosh, I think so! But the real question, are they having fun? I certainly hope so- I know I did last night! (:

As Always, GO RED SOX!

9/20/2006 - Great Game on Saturday- I got there just in the nick of time as Jake had bowling that day. Big thanks to the Stewart family for the great snack! This website has been updated and if you click the Schedule tab and click on the result of the game- it will have individual pictures of each player of the game. Unfortunately my camera is still in the shop and we have had some technical difficulties (thank you Stewarts for trying- we appreciate the effort) Scott did post the player of the game  pictures a little write up on each one. Jake will be interviewing just as soon as we can get it up and running! (I promise)

See below the date/times for the optional batting practice. Scott should be there no matter what- and it is optional- so if you can make it- he will see you at Dan Watts tonight.

Next up- We take on the Coach Roby's Pirates- this Thursday at 6PM. Some of you might remember them- they were the guys we played on our practice game. They were tough but we have a lot of spunk- so lets go out and give them our best! 6PM is always tough for Coach Scott coming from downtown but I know he will want to hit the cages before the game!

So, Try to hit the cages by 5:30PM, The Caesar family is on the snack, and As Always, GO RED SOX!!

9/16/2006 - For the second season in a row, the Red Sox tied Glenn Bache's team, this time by a score of 9 to 9.   Both teams battled back deficits in the game but when it was all said and done, the game was back to even.  Players of the game went to Jared Gaskin (two singles and a run scored), Aidan Ceasar (two hits, two runs scored) and Jake Lampel (triple and double).  Next up for the Sox is the Coach Roby Kerr's Pirates at 6pm Thursday night.  Batting Practice on Wednesday at Dan Watts field - please see the schedule below.
( More | Box)

9/13/2006 - Game two vs. the Cardinals has been rained out and rescheduled for Monday, October 2nd at 7:30pm.  The Red Sox play the Braves at 10:30am on Saturday.

9/12/2006 - The optional practice for tonight has been cancelled. We will commence the extra batting practices next week. Coach John will be in the batting cages beginning at 6:15pm in preparation of our 7:30pm game versus the Cardinals on Wednesday, September 13th.

9/11/2006 - Great game on Saturday- the kids all looked great and I hope they had fun!

Coach Scott will be at Dan Watts field tomorrow night for those that would like some extra help and practice on their hitting. He will have a pitching machine in the cages there. The batting practice will only be for 30 minutes so it will not be a huge block of time for the kids. If you need directions to Dan Watts, let me know. To make it easier, he will run these batting practices the day before each weekday game. (for example, our game this week is Wednesday- so tomorrow is the optional batting practice) I have put the rest of the dates for optional batting practices below. These batting practices are OPTIONAL and totally up to you if you want to come.  If you have time today, please let me know if you know you won't be there- that way I can condense the schedule so that Scott won't be hanging out with no players to work with. Also, if the time slot doesn't work for you or you need some help on a car pool- we are more than willing to help out- just let us know. Scott, I know the Gaskins are out for Wednesdays so I know that he won't be able to make those. I put Zack last in case someone needs more time to get there- I will gladly swap with you- his start time is very flexible. I can slot him in accordingly to the rest of the teams time wishes.

Time Frames:

6:30PM- Johnson, Adam, Brinkman, Gaskin
7:00PM- Lampel, Waldis, Heil, Caesar
7:30PM- Stewart, Walch, Peters

Batting Practices :

Tomorrow- Tuesday 9/12
Next week-Wednesday 9/20
Tuesday-9/26
Wednesday- 10/4
Monday 10/16

As soon as I hear back from Folks- I will condense the list of start times so the practice will run smoothly for tomorrow and everyone will be able to get in and out!

Again, great game on Saturday- The guys were a lot of fun to watch!!

9/9/2006 - Opening Day - The Red Sox open the fall NDY season today at noon against the Cubs

9/9/2006 - Just heard from NDY league office command post (: Pictures are at the back pavilion- not at the fields. Please meet at the Pavilion at 11AM instead of the cages or fields. If you are unsure where it is- follow the road all the way to right when you come in the park- go down the hill to the stop sign and turn right. The pavilion is up on the left....

Sorry for the misinformation before and sorry about all the emails  today.... You would think we were the REAL Red Sox or something!

9/8/2006 - Huge thanks to Debbie Peters (Treys mom) for picking
up our shirts today.  She called and happened to be there so she went
ahead and paid for them.  Please try to remember to pay her $3.00 for
the cost of putting the names on the back of our shirts. Thanks again Debbie!

9/8/2006 - From the League Commissioner - As an fyi, wasps are attracted to sweet substances…like gatorade, soda's etc. If there's a serious problem in one of the dugouts removing the trash will go a long way towards preventing a player from getting stung. The fall is "wasp season". To aid us in combating the little devils I have bought a dozen cans of spray and put them in the equipment room for the top fields and the shed for field 7. Have the coaches use as they see fit. There is also a couple of bags of fire ant poison.

9/8/2006 - Just a reminder- our opening day game is tomorrow at Noon. Please get there at 11AM as the park will be taking a team picture at that time. No individual pictures are taken for the fall season. So, it will be quick and then we will move on to batting practice. I am still looking for the actual email- but I don't see a specific time for our picture as it is not posted on the website. So, when you get there- look for your teammates and try to congregate next to one another so we will have an easier time of getting the picture done and moving on to baseball. I am picking up the shirts today and I will hand them out at that time.

Tough practice game on Wednesday- but that is why they call it practice! And, practice makes for a better ball player! My biggest hope is that everyone will improve, have fun, and want to keep playing baseball for years to come.

I know we have a quiet crowd, but lets try to cheer all of our guys  on- they actually do hear and see you on the sidelines. Which bring some to my next big request (actually partly requested by our park)- I am going to be getting your signatures on a standard medical release form that our team needs to be handed in to the park. This form makes it so the park (and your coaches) are not liable in case your guy gets hurt and needs medical attention. I know we have people who need to carpool and others who have parents with limited time to be at the park. However, there really needs to be one parent for each child when your guys are on the field. This rule is enforced by the
park because should a child get hurt or sick and require attention other than a pat on the back or a kind word- the parent is expected to make that call. Not to mention, we have parents who are volunteering their time but there are some instances where your guy will need you- whether it be in the dugout or on the field. So- please make your best effort to be in close proximity to our minor field where your son is playing. Your kids are looking to hear and see you! (Do I sound like a cheerleader?)

Next up- Big high fives for Mr. Caesar and Mr. Waldis! Mr. Caesar- all of your great pictures- I wish I had that talent! To Mr. Waldis- Scott said you were a pro at the stats the other night. Thank you for taking a load off- because while I am ok at team organization- I am afraid I am less than good at putting all of the plays on paper.  If Mr. Waldis needs a break or cannot do the stats- please be sure to step in and help him out. (I think Mr. Brinkman had said he could fill in if needed)- Thanks Jeff.

We have broken our video camera and it is in the shop as of today.  The Stewarts have offered their camera- so I will try to get the JSPN player of the game done tomorrow but just a heads up- we are having technical difficulties! (:

Lastly, I have talked to so many of you at the practices and it will be a pleasure getting to see you all over the season. Did you all know that Mr. Lampel is a Yankees fan so he will not be dawning a Red Sox cap this season? Did you know that Mrs. Waldis is a Charter Director for Taste of Home entertaining? http://www.leigh.tohe.com I wonder
what she will bring for snack? (: I found out that the Ryan Johnson goes to the same school as Lane Langston- the pitcher who played us Wednesday and a good friend of mine. What a small world. Have you met my favorite dog- Finley? He is the Stewarts pride and joy and would welcome anyone that would like to talk or play with him!

My point- We have a wonderful group of kids and parents! Take the time to get to know them- you will be glad that you did.

As a reminder- the Walch's (Whose that?) have got the snack for opening day! (:

As Always, GO RED SOX!

Michele

9/6/2006 - Coach Roby (Pirates coach) has called and requested that our players wear white shirts tonight. They are wearing colored shirts. Scott got the link finished for Mr. Caesars pictures. Just click the "Photos" link on the left side of the page.  Thank you Mr. Caesar!

I am hoping the park will have uniforms tonight- if they do, I will hand out everything but the shirts to all of you for Saturdays game.  If not, I will have to hand everything out on Saturday prior to our game.
The team CD's are finished- (Thanks Scott for all of your help on
those)- I will hand them out tonight. And, to the Lampels and the
Heils- I put your hard copies of the schedules in Scotts bag for safe keeping.
I will have fence cups for the dugout tonight with a cooler of water. I am not sure what the lineup will be- but I will have the coaches hang the cups (With the kids names on them) in the batting order in the dugout so all the kids will know where they are supposed to be.

I know the Gaskins will be absent tonight- please give us a heads up if you know your son won't be there so I can give Coach Scott and Coach John a heads up. One last thing- I will have plenty of hotdogs, chips, and drinks for players and families tonight. Please help yourself!

Lets play ball and have some fun!

Michele

9/5/2006 - Red Sox Photos - If you have been to one of our practices you may have noticed Bob Caesar snapping photos.  Well, he has compiled them all and made them accessible for you to browse.  Just click the "Photos" link on the left side of the page.  I think Bob mentioned that he will make them available via a CD at the end of the season so you can make prints of your favorite ones.  Thanks Bob!

9/5/2006 - Official Scorer - We need a volunteer to score our games.  I would appreciate your help!

9/4/2006 - Happy Labor Day! Our next outing is our practice game where we take on the Pirates at 7:30 this Wednesday. Please get there 45 minutes early if possible to hit the cages for batting practice. Scott has updated the website www.walch.biz with our schedule. He will get the kids pictures out there as soon as he can. Any information on the schedule will be posted out to the website so if you have questions- be sure to check it out. Previous announcements (in case you might have missed them) are all out there on the All announcement tab.

I will also post the snack schedule out there as well. We were trying to give everyone a break from snack during the practices- but we will move into full swing with snacks for the games. I am planning on bringing hotdogs, chips, and drinks for the practice game on Wednesday night. I will set that up while the batting practice is going on so the kids can get something to eat before the game starts. I doubt there will be a concession stand that night as it isn't the regular season yet.

There have been some questions on uniforms- I have not gotten them from the park yet. I will need to get the players names on the shirts- so I might have to hand them out prior to our game on Saturday. I will try to coordinate a better time if I can- but with no uniforms in hand 6 days before opening day- UGH! As soon as I get them- I will try to get them to all of you.

I will make every effort to finish our team CD by Wednesday and I will be sure to get it all to you. Did I forget anything?- Or anyone?- Mr. Gaskin, I know you don't like email so I hope you are still reading the bottom of this one- I expect an email back saying- GOT IT! (: Adams family- thanks much for the song choice- it was just in time as I thought I might have to call out the National Guard! (:

Michele

8/26/2006 - Team, there is a Youth Baseball Clinic tomorrow after noon from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. I encourage you to signup your son for the clinic (see info below) and I have moved our practice from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm to accommodate those of you who will enroll your sons. See you at 5:30 pm tomorrow night.

8/24/2006 - Hi All, The schedule just came out moments ago.  I know a lot were asking about it- so I wanted to forward it along right away.  I believe it will be put out on the parks website as well.? We will be handing out a schedule with just our games on it but I wanted you all to get this one just for your reference.  (It can get a little confusing with all of the teams schedules in one)

Our next practice is at 3PM on Saturday.  I know some are out of town- please let us know if you cannot be there and let us know if you are planning on attending the cookout directly after practice so we can get an accurate head count. I will send our team schedule when we put it all together. Thanks,

Michele

8/21/2006 - Hi All, This is an updated practice schedule for our team. This Friday is not a practice time for our team as originally stated in my first schedule. I am trying to plan a get together after this Saturday's 3PM practice. Debbie Peters (Treys mom) has agreed to help me set up the grills at Berkeley Lake beach. I thought we could all bring our coolers and I will get some burgers/hot-dogs for the grill. If anyone would like to bring a side dish or chips- that would be great!

Unfortunately, our practice session is so short before the season and next weekend is Labor Day weekend so I figured there would be some people out of town. It will be very informal and just a way for our parents, players, and families to meet up before the season starts. Please let us know if you can make it!

The park has added a new player to our roster- please join me in welcoming Andrew Heil to our Red Sox team. Heils family - I will send you the correspondence I have previously sent to the parents in an email following this one.

2006 Fall Red Sox Practice Schedule:
Sat 8/19 – 9:00am – Pinckneyville Park #4
Mon 8/21 @ 7:30pm - Pinckneyville Park #4
Sat 8/26 – 3:00pm – Pinckneyville Park #4
Sun 8/27 – 5:00pm – Pinckneyville Park #4
Tue 8/29 @ 6:00pm – Pinckneyville Park #4
Sat 9/2 – 10:30am – Pinckneyville Park #4
Wed 9/6 – 7:30pm – Pinckneyville Park #4 (practice game vs. Kerr’s Pirates)

Lastly- Here is the songs taken so far:
Zachary Waldis- We will rock you (Queen)
Jake Lampel- Thunder (AC/DC)

Thanks Guys!

Michele

8/18/2006 - Hi Red Sox! Are you ready for some baseball? It is hard to believe that Fall
ball is starting up again. I wanted to put out a reminder that our first practice is at Pinckneyville Park at 9AM tomorrow. I also wanted to put out the names of the players on our Red Sox team this year. I will make a complete roster with names, emails, and Phone numbers so that you will all be able to keep in touch in case you need to carpool or would just like to ride to the game with your team mates.

Coach Scott Walch and Coach John Stewart will be heading up the team this year. The have coached together for many seasons and we always have a good time meeting all of the new families and kids. Most past players know them as "Coach Scott" and "Coach John". We have a team website that shows all of our past teams- you can go to the link at http://walch.biz. We will try to update this website for this team as soon as possible. Any pictures and other help with the website is much appreciated. So, feel free to add any ideas for this team. We welcome any and all help on and off the field!

I will also be coming up with a tentative snack schedule for the practice schedule. I will try to hand that out tomorrow or will get it to you via email by the end of the weekend. All of our past families and players know that we think snack is still an important part of the season- it brings our kids and parents together before leaving the park. Before our season starts, we will have a get together for the "Welcome to the Red Sox Party"- it will be a get together so that we can all meet up before the season starts. Because we have been at the park for so many seasons- my biggest complaint was that right when we started to get to know everyone- the season was coming to an end. So, we try to get everyone acquainted before the season starts.

If you have more email addresses that you would like me to add to this list- please let me know and I will be happy to add them so that I know you are getting all of the team emails. I talked with most of you last night- for those I could not reach I am trying to verify the sizes of pants and shirts you ordered for this upcoming season. Please let me know if you have not already done that so I can get your son the correct size of shirt and pants.

We also have an older son, Jake, who is turning 11 in a couple of weeks. He likes to be involved with the team and so we allow him to a reporter for the team- JSPN (Jakes Sports Network) Instead of giving a game ball at the end of the game (Which is what was done in T-ball)- We have a player or players of the game announced. That player will get interviewed by Jake and we put all of the video together with pictures to make an end of the season DVD that will be handed out to the team. The kids always enjoy being on TV and always enjoy being the Player of the game. Not to worry, everyone will have a debut on JSPN- including coaches, fans, and parent helpers. It is all in fun!

Lastly, I am a big advocate of having fun! Our family has been blessed to have met so many great kids and families at our wonderful park. I remind my son at the beginning of every season- you will not remember all of your wins and all of your losses for the season- but you will remember the team mates and families that you met- at the end of the season- that is the best thing you will take away from the park.

Long email- (Sorry)- but as promised- please join me in saying hello and welcoming your fellow team mates to our team:

Matthew Adam
Grant Brinkman
Aidan Ceasar
Jared Gaskin
Ryan Johnson
Jake Lampel
Trey Peters
Nelson Stewart
Zack Walch
Zachary Waldis

Welcome and please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions or concerns! We look forward to meeting you all!! GO RED SOX!!
